BRIEF: Flock Theatre stages "Sense and Sensibility" in New London's Shaw MansionThe Day, New London, Conn. — Kristina Dorsey The Day, New London, Conn.
May 16--Flock Theatre returns to the Jane Austen oeuvre, performing "Sense and Sensibility" at the Shaw Mansion in New London starting Friday.
Flock, which previously staged Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," now takes on this romantic and often comic tale of the Dashwood sisters. This version is adapted by Jon Jory. (An aside about adapted versions: film fans will recall that Emma Thompson won an Oscar for her adapted screenplay of "Sense and Sensibility"; she also starred in that 1995 film alongside Kate Winslet.)
Starring as Marianne and Elinor Dashwood in Flock's production are Julie Marr and Sharon Marr, respectively. And, yes, the actresses, who are from Groton, are sisters in real life, too.
The cast, directed by Derron Wood, also features Aimee Blanchette, Suzanne McCormack, Liz Binger, Elisabeth Flannigan, Denise Shultzman, Jon Wenc, Josh Minter, George Dowker, Jesse Edwards, Isaac Packtor and Nick Perry.
"Sense and Sensibility," Shaw Mansion, 11 Blinman St., New London; starts Friday and runs through June 3; 7 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 2 p.m. Sun.; $35, $30 students, seniors, active military; (860) 443-3119, email@example.com.
